Region: Midwest Location: Minneapolis, MN Areas of Expertise: P-12 Equity & Social Justice Professional Development Diversity Organizational Change Initiatives Intercultural Communications (Qualified Administrator of the IDI) Anti-Racism and White Privilege Education Johanna Eager is a Regional Consultant for Welcoming Schools, serving the Midwest Region. She provides professional development to schools and school districts that are interested in implementing Welcoming Schools by using our tools, resources, and lessons.  To facilitate this process, she meets with administrators/administrative teams, school counselors and nurses, diversity committees, and parents/parent organizations to assess the needs of each school.   Additionally, she presents information about Welcoming Schools at local and national conferences, and closely collaborates with LGBT organizations within the communities in which she works. Johanna has been extensively and passionately involved with equity issues in P-12 education for the past 20 years.  After teaching high school English for ten years, she served as the Director of the Office of Equity and Education for a P-12 school district participating in a statewide racial integration program. She has taught various classroom cultural competency courses as adjunct faculty for a number of universities, presented at numerous national conferences on equity in education issues, and served on the board for the Minnesota chapter of the National Association of Multicultural Educators (NAME). She is certified facilitator of Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity (SEED) seminars and a Qualified Administrator (QA) of the Intercultural Development Inventory. Johanna lives in sunny Minneapolis with her partner, and enjoys an amazing community of friends and activists.  She is an avid reader of whole foods blogs and restaurant reviews. Her day isn’t quite right without a stop at her favorite coffee shop for a macchiato.  One thing that excites me about Welcoming Schools is... “…that it is NEEDED!  Welcoming Schools is clearly providing tools and resources that educators have most often not received elsewhere in their professional training.  There are many programs that work to create inclusive school environments; however, LGBT issues are often excluded, leaving educators without the information they need. Welcoming Schools, however, not only provides information about LGBT topics, but does so in the broader context of diversity issues in education, including, but not limited to, race, gender, religion and ability.”
